Are You Bearing the Fruits of the Spirit in Your Life?

A couple of weeks ago I invited my brother and sister-in-law to come to my church. It was their first time in a christian church and my church is not like any other. I was happy that they made the decision to come with me and more importantly, I was happy that the message spoke to them.

We learned about the type of fruit we are producing, good fruit (love, kindness, patience, etc.) or bad fruit (jealousy, hatred, rudeness etc). “What you say flows from what is in your heart.” Luke 6:45

Our hearts are the root of the plant that’s growing the fruit so our fruit shows what’s in our heart. Does this mean that if you have bad things coming out, you are bad??? We learned that when we give our lives to Jesus, he gives us a brand new heart! This heart is good and produces good fruit. “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

The Pastor asked us to take a fruit test. He said the test wasn’t about us comparing our fruit to somebody else’s or even comparing it to the fruit of Jesus. He said to ask ourselves if our fruit is better today than it was yesterday??? Am I doing better today than I was yesterday? Am I doing better than I was doing a year a ago? What matters is progress! Are we making constant progress, are we trying to be just a little bit better each day…. If you measure yourself next to where you will be in the greater future, it might seem impossible.

As I look back at who I was just a year ago, I know I’ve come a long way. But that’s nothing compared to where I was 6 years ago when I believed I could never change and could not imagine being where I am today. Where would I be if I had given up? If you’re on some sort if journey, don’t give up.

You’re so close and when you look back, think…”Am I better today than I was yesterday?”
