Learning To Be MySELF and Helping You BE Too!
My Journey
to Being Me.

"At night I dream dreams whose meaning comes clear when I insist on finding how each thing in the dream is myself."
- Wilson Van Dusen
My Story
"I do not wish that I had done other than I have"
- Barry Stevens
Rocio B. Flores is a peer specialist, writer, artist, and advocate — as well as a mother, wife, and caretaker — with a passion for living authentically and helping others do the same. Her journey is defined by resilience, creativity, and a deep commitment to supporting real people in embracing their true selves.

As a survivor of childhood domestic abuse and neglect, Rocio experienced extreme poverty, familial and housing instability, and the challenges of navigating a difficult and confusing home life. Her upbringing included physical violence, chronically ill family members, and the realities of being left to navigate complex family dynamics at too young an age. From adolescence onward, she faced mental health struggles, neurodivergent experiences she didn’t fully understand, and the weight of societal pressures that made her feel out of step with the world around her — leaving her vulnerable to the limited and high-risk paths available to teens in such circumstances. Even amidst these challenges, Rocio persevered, attending college, earning her degree, and getting married — steps that gave her the foundation to pursue a healthier, more authentic life.

Rocio’s early adulthood brought its own challenges. As a young and newly devoted Christian wife navigating traditional expectations, she felt the pressure to be the perfect woman: managing home, faith, and relationships flawlessly. The weight of these expectations, combined with underlying mental health struggles, led to deep panic attacks, depression, and suicidal ideation. She stepped away from traditional paths and the pursuit of societal ideals, experimenting with life choices to discover what aligned with her true self. Through this process, she learned hard lessons about self-trust, boundaries, and the importance of aligning values with action.

Pushed by the ideology of the American Dream and the ideal of a “white picket fence” lifestyle, Rocio’s first venture into professional development came as an attempt to start a coaching business — a space where she could provide guidance without the constraints of traditional education. Early exposure to marketing, networking, and “girl boss” culture revealed the pressures of systems driven by image, money, and algorithmic attention rather than authentic connection. Rather than recalibrating to fit those expectations, Rocio actively chose to follow her values, embracing authenticity, meaningful connection, and evidence-based strategies. Alongside this, she explored health, nutrition, and intuitive approaches to body and mind, rejecting rigid systems that did not honor individuality.

Writing and creativity have always been central to Rocio’s life. Though she wrote and did art from a young age, it wasn’t until she began reflecting on her experiences and sharing her work publicly — through social media, blogs, and poetry — that she recognized herself as a writer and artist. Poetry, essays, and storytelling became not just outlets for expression but tools for insight, advocacy, and connection. This creative path naturally intertwined with coaching, peer support, and public speaking, allowing her to share practical strategies and lived wisdom in ways that felt authentic and aligned with her integrity.

Faith and community have guided Rocio throughout her life. From early experiences with fundamental Christian teachings and periods of doubt, to studying religion and eventually developing a progressive, justice-focused biblical worldview, she has committed herself to service, volunteering, and mutual aid. Giving back is not just a professional or extracurricular pursuit — it is a core part of her identity, rooted in gratitude for the support she received as a child and in her belief in fostering justice, equity, and compassion in the world.

Through these experiences, Rocio has cultivated a philosophy centered on authenticity, resilience, and actionable growth. She has rebuilt her family relationships, even reconciling family systems that had been lost, established healthy boundaries, embraced self-acceptance, and created a life that reflects her values: as a mother, an educator, a writer, an artist, a speaker, and a peer. Her journey demonstrates that transformation is possible, even amid complex realities and systemic pressures, and she is committed to helping others achieve the same.

Today, Rocio combines her personal insight with professional expertise to empower others to navigate life’s challenges with clarity, confidence, and integrity. Her work focuses on helping individuals understand themselves, their choices, and the pathways to living authentically — grounded in real experience, trauma-informed practices, and research-backed strategies. Rocio’s guiding principle: learning to be herself, and helping others BE too.

I want to work with people who are weird; unafraid to stand out, to speak up for what they care about, to not fit the status quo.
I want to work with people who are learners; always open to knowing more, understanding more, and questioning the world around them.
I want to work with people who are good; always caring about others, choosing empathy, and hoping to make a change.
My Mission
"Insofar as the individual allows himself to be as he is, he is inclined to allow others to be also."
- Wilson Van Dusen
Rocio B. Flores’ mission is to help real people be their real selves. She works with individuals who want to live authentically in the world — not follow trends or curated images, but align their actions with their values, personalities, and experiences. Rocio believes that true growth begins with the SELF: awareness, acceptance, love, care, and intentional direction.
Having lived through domestic abuse, neglect, extreme poverty, family and housing instability, and mental health challenges, Rocio understands firsthand the weight of systemic, cultural, and neurodivergent realities. She knows what it is to feel out of step with the world and vulnerable to unsafe or limiting paths. This lived experience fuels her commitment to peer support — guiding people through the complexities of life with empathy, understanding, and practical insight.
Rocio’s work centers on helping people navigate real-world challenges while cultivating resilience, clarity, and a sense of agency. She focuses on evidence-informed strategies, trauma-informed approaches, and culturally aware perspectives to help individuals embrace themselves fully and show up authentically in their relationships, work, and communities. Her mission is about fostering practical transformation grounded in reality, giving people tools to thrive while honoring who they are.

My Method
"The only person who is educated is the one who has learned how to learn and change."
- Carl Rogers
Rocio’s approach is rooted in coaching and peer support, not counseling or consulting. She does not provide therapy, diagnose, or give prescriptive advice. Instead, she walks alongside individuals, helping them identify what they want to work on, clarify priorities, and take actionable steps to live authentically. This peer perspective matters because Rocio has lived these challenges herself, making her guidance relatable, grounded, and informed by real experience.

Her work is guided by two complementary frameworks:

-
BeYourSELF Framework: A stepwise path to authentic living:
-
Self-Awareness: Recognize thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and patterns.
-
Self-Acceptance: Embrace your full self without judgment.
-
Self-Love: Choose to value and honor yourself.
-
Self-Care: Commit to sustaining your well-being and growth.
-
Self-Direction: Take intentional, values-aligned action in the real world.
-
-
Being Set Free To BE Framework (Threadless → Unraveling → Tangled → Loosed): Mirrors the process of growth and integration: moving from identifying complexity and constraint, to reflecting and untangling limiting beliefs, to releasing what no longer serves, and finally stepping into freedom and purposeful action. This framework aligns with coaching, writing, and advocacy, providing a structured progression for transformation.
Rocio integrates evidence-based strategies, trauma-informed insights, and culturally aware approaches into every session. She applies these principles across coaching, writing, art, advocacy, volunteering, and speaking, ensuring that transformation is practical, actionable, and sustainable. She does not tell people who to be — she helps them be what they already are.
Her method emphasizes:

-
Understanding the decision-making process and consequences of actions.
-
Reflecting on habits, emotions, and thought patterns.
-
Developing strategies that align with individual values and lived realities.
-
Building resilience to navigate systemic and personal barriers.
-
Integrating personal growth into real-world contexts, from relationships to creative pursuits to community engagement.
Rocio’s work is designed for people ready to explore themselves fully, honor their unique journey, and commit to meaningful change, all within a supportive, non-judgmental, and research-informed framework.
